Another year. Another perfect setting to celebrate the importance of historic resources and their preservation. As one reflects on life and what is truly important, one can agree that historic preservation continues to matter.
In the spirit of generosity and gratitude, the Board of Directors of the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables invited friends and benefactors of the George Giving Society to enjoy an afternoon of champagne, celebration, and conversation.
At this 4th annual Founder’s Day tribute, sponsored by the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables, and hosted by the Merrick House Governing Board, guests and dignitaries were reminded of one of the primary sources of Merrick’s vision — the 1832 book by American novelist Washington Irving,

VIP patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy a wine tasting presentation by local wine expert Patrick Alexander. Patrick Alexander, the “Wine Lord of Aragon Avenue”, will give a short talk on the difference between the fabled wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux—courtesy of HPACG member Lee Schrager.
On March 31, join us in a historic walk along the “White Way Lights” corridor. After the walk, there will be a “Meet & Greet” with Coral Gables City Manager Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark at the Coral Gables Library.
Close to 50 people recently gathered at the Coral Gables Museum for a presentation on the whys and hows of coral rock and its significance to the founding of Coral Gables. Guests were also able to enjoy a photo exhibit of over 20 local coral rock homes in Coral Gables titled “Walk among the Corals” by local photographers Karelia Martinez Carbonell (President of HPACG) and Mike Butler.
A very elegant crowd recently joined the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables (HPACG) at the historic Coral Gables City Hall in support of the organization’s fall fundraiser. The event was enchanting– enhanced by a bright moonshine and a starry night.
It has been with great pleasure that the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables (HPACG) has partnered with the Coral Gables Museum on numerous occasions since the Museum opened to the public in the Old Police and Fire Station in 2011.
