Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables (HPACG) elected its 2018 Board of Directors at the organization’s recent annual meeting. Executive officers include: President Karelia Martinez Carbonell and Secretary Mary Anne Danguillecourt. Two new board members join the Board—Pat Button and Ira Shapiro.

Lisa Bennett is an attorney at Bennett & Bennett; past president of HPACG, past member and chair Coral Gables Historic Preservation Board, current Chair Coral Gables Library Advisory Board. Ms. Bennett holds a Juris Doctorate from Florida State University.

Pat Button was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island and New York City. Pat has a BS from Barry College for Women and an MS from NOVA University. She taught chemistry and the sciences for over 30 years, lectured about New Guinea art, culture and WW II at the U.S. Naval War College, Amherst College, Rhode Island School of Design, Newport Art Association. Pat has been an active volunteer at her church and other care groups and served on the board of the Coral Gables Music Club. She is proud to be a world solo traveler. Pat married in Durban, South Africa and has one son.

Mary Anne Danguillecourt is an active member of the local volunteer community who was born, raised and educated in Boston and New York. Mary Anne has a BS from College of New Rochelle. Mary Anne She has volunteered at Venetian Aquatics Club, Carrollton School of the Scared Heart. She also is a member of Funding Arts Network.

Karelia Martinez Carbonell is an independent fundraising and communications consultant after many years employed in the not-for-profit sector. Dr. Martinez Carbonell holds a Doctorate in Public Administration and Non-profit management from NSU. Martinez Carbonell is one of a limited number of fundraisers worldwide who have earned the CFRE credential (certified fundraising executive).

Alice Goldhagen is an art specialist and a well-known photographer who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Bachelor of Science in Art from the University of Wisconsin- Madison; a Masters in Art Education from the University of Miami; and a Fine Arts Specialist Degree from Florida International University.

Ann Goodman is a realtor specializing in the Coral Gables area for over 30 years. She is currently affiliated with Kerdyk Real Estate. Ms. Goodman holds an MBA in International Business from the George Washington University in Washington, DC and an undergraduate degree in romance languages from the University of Miami. Ann’s other non-profit affiliations include the Young Patronesses of the Opera, Coral Gables Garden Club, Coral Gables Music Club, and the University of Miami Guild.

Sallye Jude is a preservationist and local activist. Ms. Jude holds a degree in Economics from the University of Maryland and a degree in Education from the University of Minnesota.

David B. Mitchell is an attorney practicing in Coral Gables for over 35 years, specializing in marital and family law. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, a juris doctor from Stetson College of Law and an advanced undergraduate diploma with honors in English history from the University of Oxford.

Ira Shapiro has lived in Miami-Dade for the past 57 years. He attended Sunset Elementary, South Miami Junior High and Coral Gables Senior High. He began his degree studies at the University of Miami and completed a degree in Architectural Technology from FIU. In the 1980s, Ira became a Docent at Villa Vizcaya. During his time at Vizcaya, he reviewed and copied the original sets of plans, sketches and drawing of the house. The resulting copied sets became available to the maintenance staff and outside vendors when making repairs at the house. He returned to Vizcaya two years ago to become a guide once again. Ira is also involved with the Tropical Audubon Society and the restoration of the Arden “Doc” Thomas house. In addition, he is active with the South Florida Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Ira is also a member of the Villagers.
