The Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables is partnering with the l00 Ladies of Deering, a fundraising committee of the Deering Estate Foundation, to host a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the National Parks, the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, the 30th anniversary of the Deering Estate Foundation, and the 25th anniversary of HPACG..
Following a cocktail reception, the program will feature three special speakers:
Coming from Washington, DC is Thompson Mayes, Vice President and Senior Counsel of the National Trust, who will speak on the future of preservation.
Author and local historian Arva Moore Parks will address how the National Historic Preservation Act has benefited Miami.
Dr.Janet Snyder Matthews, a former Keeper of the National Register who is the Director of Academics and Research for the University of Florida’s Historic St. Augustine, Inc., will discuss why the Deering Estate should be designated a National Historic Landmark–and how to make that happen.
