Destination Palm Beach: Mar-a-Lago April 23

03.18.2017

In 2012, Mar-a-Lago was voted the No.1 historic building in the state by the Florida chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Lunch in the Tea Room and private tour of the estate. Tour will be led by Rick Gonzalez, president of REG Architects, who is the official architect/preservationist of Mar-a-Lago since 1995. Rick is immediate past president of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation.

Mar-a-Lago is a National Historic Landmark in Palm Beach, Florida, built from 1924 to 1927 by heiress and socialite Marjorie Merriweather Post. Post envisioned the house as a future winter retreat for American presidents and foreign dignitaries, and following her death in 1973 it was bequeathed to the nation. However, successive presidents declined to use the mansion, which was returned to Post’s estate in 1980 and in 1985 was purchased by Donald Trump, later 45th President of the United States.
